9/11 mastermind and two accomplices accused in agreement to plead guilty

Three men accused of plotting the 9/11 attacks, including alleged mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, have entered a plea agreement with the military, officials announced. Mohammed, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin ‘Attash, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi are expected to plead guilty to some charges as early as next week at Guantanamo Bay. The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, but they are anticipated to plead guilty to lesser charges that could spare them from the death penalty.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was captured in Pakistan in 2003 and has been held with other al Qaeda detainees at Guantanamo Bay. He and other defendants were initially charged and arraigned in 2008 in connection with their alleged role in the 9/11 attack. The plea agreement marks a significant development in the case that has spanned over a decade.

The story is still unfolding, and updates are expected. Tim Stelloh and Courtney Kube, reporters for NBC News, are closely following this breaking news. The plea agreement could provide some closure and accountability in one of the most devastating terrorist attacks in U.S. history. The decision to plead guilty to some charges may bring a level of resolution to the victims’ families and survivors of the 9/11 attacks.
