Senate Majority Leader Cindy O’Laughlin is making headlines once again, this time for her involvement in a political action committee aimed at stopping state Sen. Bill Eigel from becoming governor of Missouri. The NEMO Leadership PAC, connected to O’Laughlin, contributed $100,000 to the Great Northwest PAC, which in turn used the funds to purchase direct mail pieces targeting Eigel. Both PACs share the same treasurer, Amber Watson.
Eigel, a member of GOP factions that disrupted Senate business, has clashed with O’Laughlin in the past. O’Laughlin had previously stated that she would vote to expel Eigel from the Senate. Eigel, in turn, has promised to veto spending bills and dismantle the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education if elected governor.
Despite trailing behind rivals in the polls, Eigel sees the involvement of PACs aligned with his Senate colleagues as a sign that he is gaining ground in the upcoming primary election. He believes that the funds should be used to support Republican candidates in the general election, rather than to target him.
The ongoing conflict highlights internal divisions within the Republican Party and the power struggle among key figures. As the primary election draws near, the race for governor in Missouri remains highly competitive, with Eigel determined to defy the odds and secure a victory.
