The Missouri State University women’s track and field team was awarded the top honor at the 15th annual Bears Choice Awards for the second year in a row. The team, coached by Jordan Fife, excelled in various categories including community service, academic excellence, athletic excellence, Bears supporting Bears, and personal development. The team’s accomplishment marks their fourth Bear Cup win and their third in the last four years.
Individual student-athletes were also recognized for their achievements during the year-end celebration. Lily DeSpain was awarded the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Female Student-Athlete of the Year, while Max Kreikemeier received the Bill Rowe Male Student-Athlete of the Year. Various other awards were given to standout athletes across different sports.
Additionally, team awards were presented to different sports for their accomplishments throughout the year. Women’s swimming and diving was named Team of the Year, and coach Dave Collins from swimming was named Coach of the Year.
The event also included a tribute to over 1,455 hours of volunteer and community service efforts by MSU’s student-athletes, with the total economic impact exceeding $49,000 to the Springfield community. The Missouri State women’s golf team received the Academic Excellence Award for the first time, while baseball earned the Community Service Award. Other team awards were given to men’s soccer, women’s soccer, women’s swimming and diving, and women’s track and field for various achievements.
Overall, the Bears Choice Awards highlighted the outstanding achievements and contributions of student-athletes at Missouri State University. #BearsChoice.
