Missouri is gearing up for its annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday this weekend, allowing students and families to purchase school supplies without having to pay local and state sales tax for 72 hours. The holiday starts at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 2nd and ends at midnight on Sunday, August 4th.
During this time, eligible purchases include clothing valued at $100 or less, school supplies under $50 per purchase, calculators, graphing calculators, computer software, personal computers, and computer peripheral devices. However, items such as watches, jewelry, and handbags are not included in the tax exemption.
Since 2023, both local and state sales tax will be waived in all cities, counties, and special tax districts during the holiday. This provides an opportunity for anyone to participate in the tax-free shopping spree, regardless of whether they are a Missouri resident or student.
As students gear up for the upcoming school year, this weekend presents a great opportunity to save money on essential supplies. From textbooks and notebooks to clothing and computer software, the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday in Missouri aims to ease the financial burden on families as they prepare for the start of the school year. The holiday comes just a few weeks before the start of the 2024-25 school year in Springfield, providing ample time for families to stock up on necessary items.
