Update: New F1 World Championship Standings Following the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix

George Russell’s disqualification from the Belgian Grand Prix in the 2024 F1 World Championship had a significant impact on the standings. This allowed McLaren to gain an extra point on Red Bull, with Mercedes now remaining fourth. Despite Max Verstappen’s 10-place grid penalty in Spa, he extended his lead over McLaren’s Lando Norris in the drivers’ championship. Norris lost ground to his rival due to a first corner slip-up. Red Bull has been outscored by its three nearest rivals in the past two races, and its points lead has been reduced to 42 over McLaren.

The updated standings show Max Verstappen leading with 277 points, followed by Norris with 199 points and Charles Leclerc with 177 points. Oscar Piastri is in fourth place with 167 points. Lewis Hamilton is in sixth with 150 points. Red Bull leads the constructors’ championship with 408 points, followed by McLaren with 366 points and Ferrari with 345 points. Mercedes is in fourth place with 266 points.

Red Bull’s advantage over McLaren in the constructors’ championship has been reduced to 42 points, with Red Bull failing to win a race in the last three grands prix. Mercedes’ 1-2 finish at Spa resulted in 43 points, compared to McLaren’s 23, Ferrari’s 18, and Red Bull’s 15. Ferrari remains third in the championship, with Aston Martin leading the rest with 73 points. George Russell’s disqualification had a significant impact on the standings, with McLaren and Red Bull now in a closer battle for the championship.
