The world is facing a crisis of unprecedented proportions as more than 45,000 species are threatened with extinction globally, according to The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species. With human encroachment on natural habitats, wildlife conservation has become a pressing issue. Advanced technology such as drones, camera traps, and satellite monitoring is being leveraged to protect endangered species. In India, organizations are using GPS tracking for wild elephants, geospatial data for grasslands, and machine intelligence for conservation efforts. Leopard Tech Labs, based in Kerala, has developed apps like HAWK to combat wildlife trafficking and Jumbo Radar to monitor elephant movements. Other apps like WildWatch and Sarpa are aimed at mitigating human-wildlife conflicts and rescuing snakes. These innovative tools are crucial in protecting India’s diverse wildlife from illegal activities and human-animal conflicts. As technology continues to advance, the hope is that these conservation efforts will help preserve the rich biodiversity of the country for future generations.
