Missouri State University has officially accepted an invitation to join Conference USA as a full-league member starting on July 1, 2025. This move will mark the university’s first entry into the NCAA’s exclusive Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The transition plans will be formally announced at a news conference on May 13, which will be open to the public.
The university’s President, Clif Smart, expressed excitement about the opportunities that come with membership in an FBS conference, highlighting the potential for growth and increased reputation for Missouri State. Director of Athletics, Kyle Moats, emphasized the financial benefits and upgraded resources that the move to CUSA will bring to the university’s student-athletes and sports programs.
Missouri State will become the 12th full-time member of CUSA, joining a list of universities from around the country. The university will retain its membership in the Missouri Valley Conference for the 2024-25 season, during which all sports will remain eligible for championships. The move to FBS football will require the addition of two new women’s programs, aiming to maintain excellence in women’s athletics and Title IX compliance.
