The Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council has approved an $85,000 grant for a storytelling project that aims to highlight the experiences of individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities in all 114 counties of Missouri and St. Louis City. This 18-month project will focus on creating a platform for individuals to share their stories in hopes of bringing awareness to the challenges faced by people with disabilities in the state.
MODDC expressed the importance of incorporating the lived experiences of individuals with disabilities and their families into Missouri’s decision-making processes. By highlighting these personal stories, the council hopes to shed light on the barriers that individuals with disabilities may encounter due to existing laws and policies in the state.
Applicants interested in receiving the grant must participate in a Q&A webinar on August 7th at 2 p.m. through Zoom. Questions for the webinar must be submitted in advance via email by July 31st. MODDC encourages individuals with personal experiences related to intellectual or developmental disabilities to apply for the grant in order to contribute to a more inclusive and understanding future for all Missourians.
This initiative by MODDC is a part of their ongoing efforts to advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities in Missouri, and the council hopes that by sharing these stories, they can inspire positive action and change within the state’s policy-making processes.
