Three members of the family gospel group The Nelons were killed in a plane crash in Wyoming, along with four others including the pilot. Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband, Jason Clark, and daughter Amber Nelon Kistler were on their way to the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska when the crash occurred. The group had documented their journey on social media just before the crash. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
Autumn Nelon Streetman, who is also a member of the group, was not on the plane and thanked everyone for their prayers. Also killed in the crash were Amber’s husband, Nathan Kistler, Melodi Hodges, and pilot Larry Haynie and his wife, Melissa. Larry Haynie was a Georgia Department of Corrections Board chairman, and Governor Brian Kemp expressed sadness over their deaths.
The Nelons have a long history in gospel music, recording over 35 albums and receiving numerous awards. They were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2016. The Gospel Music Association and music community are mourning the loss and offering condolences to the Nelon family. They will be remembered for their contributions to the industry and the impact they had in their music and in the lives of those around them.
