Three inmates have been mistakenly released from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico during the month of July, according to Bernalillo County officials. The most recent incident involved 44-year-old Desiree Sanchez, who was released a week after being booked for charges related to armed robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Another inmate was released on July 17 without fulfilling pretrial service requirements, but he later completed them after being contacted by jail staff. The third inmate, Anthony James Jaramillo, was released on July 3 and is still at large. Local law enforcement are searching for him after being notified by Metro Court officials. The MDC’s Office of Professional Standards is investigating all three incidents. A new protocol to double-check inmates’ release information has been implemented after the July 17 incident, but questions remain about how an inmate was still mistakenly released despite these improvements. County officials have not yet addressed these concerns.
