After performing his 150th show at Madison Square Garden, Billy Joel concluded his decade-long residency at the iconic New York City venue. This marked the end of nearly 50 years since his first show at MSG in 1978. Joel became the first music franchise at MSG in 2013, performing one show a month for as long as the demand continued. Over the years, he set multiple records for consecutive and lifetime performances at MSG, leading to banners being raised in his honor. The venue celebrated his final show by showcasing memorabilia and moments from his franchise run in a special exhibit.
Throughout his tenure at MSG, Joel was joined on stage by various surprise guests, including Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Paul Simon, and Miley Cyrus, among others. Fans who attended his final show had the opportunity to enjoy themed concessions and write messages to Joel at a photo station. Joel’s legendary run at MSG saw over 1.9 million tickets sold to fans from all over the world. In addition to his solo concerts, Joel also participated in benefit concerts at MSG to support various causes, such as Hurricane Sandy relief and aid for 9/11 victims.
In November 2023, Joel announced his final show at MSG through an Instagram post, marking the end of an era for the legendary musician at the iconic New York City venue.
