Three of Missouri football’s key players at defensive tackle will not be returning for the 2024 season, leaving a significant gap in the roster. With 10 players lost to the NFL Draft or eligibility, the question arises of who will step up to replace the lost production.
Missouri has secured two players from the transfer portal with college experience to help fill the void, in addition to relying on high-level recruits from recent classes. Kristian Williams is expected to be the clear starter, having transferred from Oregon and demonstrated his ability with 10 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in his time with the team.
Florida transfer Chris McClellan and St. Louis native Sterling Webb also appear to be in line for significant playing time. Four-star recruit Marquis Gracial and three-star prospect Jalen Marshall, both from the Class of 2022, are also poised to make an impact after limited playing time.
Williams, seen as a team leader, has been instrumental in setting a standard for the group. His experience and production will be crucial as Missouri looks to rebuild its defensive tackle position. As the team prepares for fall camp, there is a focus on developing in-house talent to fill the fourth spot in the rotation.
Marshall, a sophomore standout, could be a breakout candidate for the Tigers. Listed at 6-4, 312 pounds, he has shown promise and earned praise from coach Eli Drinkwitz. With an eye on the upcoming season, Missouri will need its young players to step up and contribute to maintain the success of the defensive tackle unit.
