A 76-year-old woman in Connecticut, Linda Kosuda-Bigazzi, was found dead at her home just hours before she was set to be sentenced for killing her husband, Dr. Pierluigi Bigazzi. She had been hiding his body for months while still cashing his paychecks. The cause of her death is under investigation.
Kosuda-Bigazzi had been set to receive a 13-year prison sentence under a plea deal for the 2017 death of her husband. According to her lawyer, her death was unexpected, and they had been defending her for six years. She claimed in a written statement that she hit her husband with a hammer during a fight when he attacked her after she mentioned needed repairs to their deck.
Dr. Pierluigi Bigazzi’s body was found in their basement in February 2018, showing signs of advanced decomposition. Investigators believe he died in July 2017, but his paychecks were still being deposited until his body was discovered. An internal investigation by UConn resulted in disciplinary action against a medical official who was supposed to monitor his work but had not had contact with him for months before his body was found.
This case highlights a tragic and complex situation involving domestic violence, murder, financial fraud, and neglect, leading to legal consequences for the perpetrator and repercussions for the institution where the victim worked.
