The Israeli military has recovered the bodies of five captives, including a kindergarten teacher and soldiers, from southern Gaza during an operation in Khan Younis. The bodies of Maya Goren, Tomer Ahimas, Kiril Brodski, Ravid Aryeh Katz, and Oren Goldin were returned to Israel. Goren, 56, was killed in an attack on the kibbutz of Nir Oz, while the soldiers were killed in combat. The bodies were retrieved after Israeli forces launched new raids in the area.
In response to the recovery, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that efforts were being made to release remaining captives but did not provide guarantees. Families of eight US captives in Gaza expressed disappointment in Netanyahu’s failure to commit to a hostage deal. They urged him to act before it was too late. The death toll in Gaza from Israel’s war is over 39,000 with thousands injured, while in Israel, 1,139 people have been killed, and many are still held captive in Gaza.
The Gaza Government Media Office reported that at least 129 Palestinians were killed and hundreds wounded in Khan Younis after recent Israeli attacks, which forced 150,000 residents to evacuate. Netanyahu’s lack of commitment to a hostage deal was criticized, leading to calls for action from both countries’ leaders. The situation remains tense as the recovery of bodies and the release of captives continue to be major issues in the ongoing conflict.
