Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United States Congress during the ongoing war on Gaza, presenting a defense of Israel’s actions. He spoke of a plan for a “de-radicalized post-war Gaza” but offered few details, stating that Israel would retain security control over the strip. Outside Congress, protesters called for Netanyahu to be prosecuted for alleged war crimes as families of Israeli captives evicted for demanding answers.
Netanyahu made claims in his speech that were fact-checked by Al Jazeera. He claimed that Israel had killed 1,203 Palestinian fighters in Rafah with minimal civilian casualties, but independent reports contradict this, showing widespread civilian deaths in Gaza. He also claimed that Israel provided aid to Gaza, but the reality is that the blockade imposed by Israel significantly limited essential supplies, leading to famine in Gaza.
Furthermore, Netanyahu accused Iran of funding anti-Israel protests, but provided no evidence to support this claim. The International Criminal Court accused Israel of deliberately targeting civilians, but reports show that Israel marked a large portion of Gaza as unsafe for civilians, leading to mass evacuations and indiscriminate bombings.
Netanyahu stated that the war could end if Hamas surrenders, disarms, and returns hostages, but Hamas has not agreed to these terms. The conflict in Gaza continues with no clear end in sight.
