The Missouri American Water MR340 race, the world’s longest nonstop river race covering 340 miles on the Missouri River, began in Kansas City on Tuesday and will end on Friday at 9 p.m. in St. Charles County. This year’s race is expected to see clear weather through mid-Missouri on Wednesday. Last year’s race was cut short due to heavy storms that left debris in the river. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, 700 people are participating in this year’s race.
Safety is a top priority during the MR340 race, especially for those who plan to boat on the Missouri River in the coming days. MSHP Troop F has issued a safety tip urging caution due to the high number of participants in the race.
The race has various checkpoints along the river, with participants set to pass through Glasgow on Tuesday night, Franklin Island near Boonville on Thursday morning, Cooper’s Landing in southern Boone County on Thursday midday, and Jefferson City on Thursday afternoon.
