State Senator Bill Eigel has made a name for himself in Missouri politics as a disruptor, leading right-wing factions and engaging in combative tactics that have alienated him from many in the upper chamber. His actions have resulted in the loss of his chairmanship and Senate majority leader publicly considering voting to oust him. Despite this, polling shows that Eigel is gaining recognition and support in his bid for governor, with his priority being to reset the agenda for Missouri and the state Republican Party.
Eigel’s policy proposals include fiscal restraint, the abolition of personal property tax, and allowing investors in gold and silver to use them in commercial transactions and for taxes. He also plans to eliminate the state income tax, replacing the revenue with higher state sales taxes. His budget and tax agenda includes massive reductions in state expenditures, personnel cuts, and repealing the gas tax passed in 2021. Eigel has criticized previous Republican governors for signing tax increases, stating that it betrays the Republican brand.
In the education sector, Eigel has called for the abolition of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and dividing its duties among other agencies. However, abolishing the department would require a statewide vote. Eigel’s platform is focused on reducing taxes, cutting government spending, and reshaping state government to better serve Missourians. If elected governor, Eigel promises to continue disrupting the status quo and enacting bold reforms to benefit the state and its residents.
