Two Republicans, Stephanos Freeman and Bernadean McAfee, are set to compete for the chance to run for the District 132 state House seat which encompasses north Springfield and Greene County. The current representative, Crystal Quade, is at the end of her term limit and is running for governor, leaving an open seat for the upcoming election. On the Democratic side, Jeremy Dean, an operations manager for a local nonprofit, is in the running for this seat.
Stephanos Freeman, a lifelong Springfield-area resident, is running on a platform that focuses on addressing homelessness, development, and the centralization of power in the legislature. He believes that some legislators are influenced by organizations that are bribing them and wants to bring transparency to the process.
Bernadean McAfee, a real estate broker and court-appointed special advocate volunteer, has a background in mediation and advocacy. If elected, she aims to hold politicians accountable to the people, uphold Constitutional freedoms, and strengthen the economy. McAfee emphasizes the importance of working through challenges and coming up with solutions for the community.
The primary election will be held on August 6, where voters will have the opportunity to choose between Freeman and McAfee to represent the Republican Party in the race for the District 132 state House seat.
