Ukraine’s air defence systems were activated to repel a Russian air attack on the capital, Kyiv. The military urged residents to stay in shelters until the air raid alarm was lifted. The air attack resulted in the deaths of at least three people in missile and artillery strikes in various parts of the country, including a town in the north-east Kharkiv region and a city in the south.
The death toll from previous attacks also rose, including a strike on a playground in Mykolaiv which killed four people, including a child, and injured 24. Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump claimed he would prevent World War Three and settle the war between Russia and Ukraine if he were re-elected in November. Trump’s comments came after a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, where he promised to end the war without providing specifics.
The situation in Ukraine remains dire as the conflict with Russia continues to escalate, with ongoing air attacks and artillery shelling causing casualties and destruction. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with concerns about the potential for further escalation and the impact on civilians. Efforts to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the conflict are ongoing, but the situation remains volatile as both sides engage in military action.
