A recent global tech outage has caused widespread flight delays and cancellations, leaving travelers frustrated and stranded. Although the Columbia Regional Airport did not experience issues with Microsoft’s systems, travelers in Mid-Missouri faced disruptions with their connecting flights. Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and Dallas Fort-Worth Airport were heavily impacted, causing stress and inconvenience for passengers like Angela Taflampas and University of Missouri volleyball player Colleen Finney.
Taflampas, a mother trying to visit her daughter in Missouri, faced multiple delays and eventual cancellation of her flight. Similarly, Finney had a hectic 24 hours, starting in Las Vegas for an internship and facing delays in Dallas before finally making it back to Columbia. The delays affected multiple passengers at crowded airports, with gates around Finney facing similar issues.
Despite the frustration, Taflampas was assured by American Airlines that her reward miles would be reinstated immediately. The arrival group at 4:52 p.m. reported that travel has returned to normal at the Columbia Regional Airport, with passengers arriving earlier than expected. However, some travelers still faced cancellations, such as a man whose flight from COU to Chicago O’Hare was canceled. The last plane from Dallas is set to arrive in Columbia at 10:49 p.m.
Overall, the tech outage has caused significant disruptions in air travel, leaving passengers dealing with delays, cancellations, and rescheduled flights. Airlines and airports are working to normalize operations and accommodate affected travelers.
