Senator Jon Tester Urges President Biden to Withdraw from 2024 Presidential Race

Senator Jon Tester of Montana, facing a tough re-election bid, has become the second Democratic senator to call for President Joe Biden to not seek re-election in 2024. Tester, who has worked with Biden on some issues but has also criticized him in the past, stated that Biden needs to prove he is up to the job for another four years. Tester’s decision comes after 21 congressional Democrats, including Representative Peter Welch of Vermont, have also called on Biden to exit the race. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was informed of Tester’s plans before the public statement was made. In response, the Biden campaign emphasized the importance of focusing on re-electing the president and vice president. Tester’s Republican challenger criticized him for “distancing himself from the train wreck he’s enabled.” In the past, Tester had expressed confidence in Biden’s abilities when asked about concerns regarding his age. Tester’s decision adds to the growing pressure on Biden within his own party, as he faces questions about his leadership and ability to win re-election.
