Semi fire in northeast Missouri destroys frozen pizza products

A tractor-trailer fire in northeast Missouri resulted in the destruction of frozen pizza products being hauled by an 18-wheeler. The blaze occurred on Tuesday morning along westbound Highway 36, one mile west of Lakenan in Shelby County. Photos from the Shelbina Fire Protection District depict the stages of the fire and the damage caused to the cab and front part of the trailer. The Missouri Department of Transportation redirected traffic until the cleanup was completed. Fortunately, the truck driver, his wife, and children safely escaped the vehicle. Fire Chief Gene Harland suspects that the fire originated in the trailer’s refrigeration unit. Despite the destruction of the pizza products, no injuries were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire remains unknown. Responders from the Monroe City Fire Protection District also assisted in extinguishing the flames. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of transporting perishable goods like frozen foods. Motorists passing by the scene may have noticed the distinct smell of pizza wafting through the air as the fire engulfed the trailer.
