SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey Displeased with State NIL Legislation

In a conference dominated by discussions around the legality of college athletes being paid, Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey expressed his concern over Missouri’s advantage due to liberal name, image, and likeness legislation. Sankey emphasized the need for a consistent set of standards governing all schools to maintain competitive balance.
With the recent addition of Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC, expanding the league to 16 teams, Sankey reiterated the conference’s commitment to its southeastern roots and downplayed further expansion. He also addressed the elimination of football divisions in the 16-team era and the impending tiebreaker procedures.
Former Mizzou defensive coordinator Blake Baker made a transition to LSU, where he aims to rebuild the team’s defense. LSU head coach Brian Kelly praised Baker’s coaching style and emphasized the importance of player relationships and teamwork in achieving success.
Sankey’s remarks at the football media days event indicated a strong stance on maintaining competitive integrity and consistency within the SEC, while also acknowledging the challenges posed by external factors such as state legislation and ongoing discussions at the national level.
