Five people injured in a pickup truck collision on rural Missouri highway.


A three-vehicle collision on a rural Missouri highway left five people injured and hospitalized on Thursday, July 18. The crash occurred on Missouri Highway 131 north of Odessa near Mulberry Rd. The collision was caused when a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado driven by John R. Daniel, 82, of Odessa, MO, veered into the southbound lane, side-swiping a 2023 Honda Accord and a 2020 Ford F150. All three vehicles were totaled in the accident.

The drivers of the vehicles involved in the crash were identified as Brandon K. Meador, 42, and Sonja E. Begemann, 32, both of Odessa. Two occupants, Jo A. Daniel, 79, and Austin L. Jenkins, 31, were also injured in the crash. All five individuals were taken to Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, with John Daniel in critical condition and Jo Daniel with serious injuries. Meador, Begemann, and Jenkins sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Despite the severity of the crash, all involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, and no further details have been released. The authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic laws to prevent such accidents in the future.
