Sean East II, after a successful season with the University of Missouri men’s basketball team, has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Los Angeles Lakers as he continues his career in the NBA. East led the Tigers in scoring with 17.6 points and 4.0 assists per game in the 2023-24 season, ranking fifth in the SEC in scoring and sixth in assists. His shooting percentages were also impressive, with 52.1 percent from the field and 45.0 percent from three-point range, which was the seventh-best in Mizzou history.
East’s breakout season saw him improve his scoring average by 10.3 points, becoming one of the nation’s most improved players. He was named the 2024 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was only the sixth player in Mizzou history to average at least 15.0 points and 4.0 assists in a single season. East is the third player under Coach Dennis Gates to sign with an NBA team in the past two seasons, following Kobe Brown and D’Moi Hodge.
Aside from his individual success, East was also part of the 2022-23 team that achieved significant milestones for the program, including winning 25 games, reaching the SEC Tournament semifinals for the first time, and securing Mizzou’s first NCAA Tournament victory in over a decade. With his impressive performance and achievements, East’s signing with the Lakers marks the next step in his promising basketball career.
