Picente expresses frustration over federal technology funding bypassing – Oneida Dispatch

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. has expressed his disappointment after the Utica-Rome region was left out of federal funding for technology jobs. Picente highlighted the thousands of semiconductor and supply chain jobs in the area, as well as the related technology research at Griffiss Business & Technology Park. The Biden-Harris Administration’s Tech Hubs Program aims to invest in critical technologies and create jobs in innovative industries. New York’s NY SMART I-Corridor Tech Hub, focused on semiconductor manufacturing, was one of the 12 recipients of funding, receiving around $40 million. Despite being excluded from federal funding, Picente stated that Oneida County will continue investing in its tech corridor with support from the state and other partners. The county executive is determined to push forward with local technological advancements and economic growth despite this setback.
