Missouri American Water has filed a request with the Missouri Public Service Commission for $1.5 billion in water and wastewater system investments from January 2023 to May 2026. The company aims to replace aging infrastructure, enhance water quality, and comply with environmental regulations to provide safe and reliable service to 1.6 million Missourians. Key projects include upgrades in Joplin, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Jefferson City, St. Joseph, Eureka, and Smithton.
The company’s last general rate case was approved in May 2023, with new rates becoming effective in May 2023. If the proposed rates are approved, the average residential water bill could increase by $18 per month. Missouri American Water also offers income-based rates for customers facing financial hardship and assistance programs.
The rate request will undergo public scrutiny by the MoPSC, a process that can take up to 11 months. Any rate changes proposed in this filing are not expected to take effect until mid-2025. The company’s commitment to transparency is evident through the inclusion of proposed tariffs and filing information on its website.
With a focus on protecting public health and safety, Missouri American Water is dedicated to improving water and wastewater systems for communities across the state. The planned investments will enhance service reliability, increase fire protection, and improve water quality for customers.
