Mizzou’s linebacker room received a significant boost with the addition of Khalil Jacobs from South Alabama ahead of the 2024 summer. The Tigers had struggled with depth in the linebacker position after losing key seniors and underclassmen transferring out. Jacobs, along with transfers Corey Flagg and Jeremiah Beasley, helps solidify the linebacker room and provides much-needed experience and depth. Jacobs, who played under Mizzou’s defensive coordinator Corey Batoon at South Alabama, brings FBS-level experience and will be a key rotational piece alongside Flagg, Chuck Hicks, and Triston Newson.
With three linebackers in their last year of eligibility, Mizzou’s coaching staff can now plan for future leadership with Jacobs on board, ensuring a smoother transition for younger players. The addition of Jacobs not only addresses immediate needs for the 2024 season but also sets up the Tigers for success beyond this year. The coaching staff may still look to the transfer portal for more linebacker experience in the future, but Jacobs’ presence allows young talent like Brayshawn Littlejohn and incoming recruits to develop without being rushed into starting roles. Mizzou’s defense, despite facing other challenges, no longer needs to worry about linebacker depth with Jacobs in the mix, setting the stage for a strong defense in the upcoming season.
