Lulu C. Wang immigrated to the United States from Shanghai in 1948 when she was just 4 years old, not knowing more than one word of English. Her family was forced to leave China amid the communist revolution, leaving everything behind. Despite facing this adversity, Wang went on to embody the American Dream by conquering Wall Street, raising a family, and dedicating her life to philanthropy, particularly in the arts.
Wang is a trustee for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where she funded six galleries dedicated to 18th Century American Art. She believes that art has the power to connect people and bring them together. Wang’s success on Wall Street as one of the few women in the industry did not deter her, as she focused on her own vision and drive to succeed.
Now nearing 80 years old, Wang reflects on her journey and believes in the importance of giving back.
