Sudan has been plagued by war for years, displacing nearly 10 million people and leaving millions hungry, traumatized, and hopeless. The lack of attention from the international community is not unique to Sudan, as other forgotten crises in countries like Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Gaza continue to worsen without global intervention.
The World Food Programme has warned of the potential for the world’s largest hunger crisis in Sudan, with families resorting to eating soil and leaves to survive. With the main crop planting season approaching, the chances of a successful harvest are low due to displacement and starvation.
It is crucial for the international community to recognize the urgency of the situation in Sudan and take immediate action to prevent further devastation. If action is not taken now, the consequences could lead to the largest hunger crisis of our time. The world cannot claim ignorance but must acknowledge and address the suffering of the people in Sudan and other forgotten crises around the globe.
