Mid-Missouri residents are being advised to steer clear of flood-prone areas as river and creek levels continue to rise. The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office has announced the closure of Route O and warned that water levels are expected to increase as the Missouri River rises. Columbia Parks and Recreation has also reported that part of the MKT Trail is underwater. A photo shared by KRCG Chief Meteorologist Sharon Ray shows the Missouri River overflowing its banks in Boone County.
The worsening conditions have forced the postponement of an event at Cooper’s Landing, with the 4th annual Operation SGT Rosies Lifejackets For Vets and Pets now rescheduled for Saturday, July 20th. The Sheriff’s Office has urged caution, reminding residents to avoid low-lying areas that may become flooded. They emphasize the importance of not attempting to cross water-covered roadways, as it can be dangerous. In their Facebook post, they issued a plea for residents to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” and to stay informed about the situation. Residents are advised to stay safe and to exercise caution to avoid potential risks posed by the rising water levels.
