Marshall football team scheduled to face Missouri State from 2025 onwards

Marshall University’s football team has announced a new two-game series with Missouri State, marking the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Thundering Herd will host Missouri State in Huntington on September 6, 2025, and then travel to Springfield, Missouri for a game on September 19, 2026.

This series is significant as it brings together a former Conference USA member (Marshall) and a new Conference USA member (Missouri State). Marshall’s director of athletics, Christian Spears, expressed excitement about the opportunity to face Missouri State, noting their sincere desire to play in Huntington.

The 2025 game will be the first time in 25 years that a team from Missouri has visited Marshall’s Joan C. Edwards Stadium, with the last team being Southeast Missouri in 1997. This will also be only the second time in program history that Marshall has played a game in the state of Missouri.

Fans are eagerly anticipating this unique matchup between the two teams, with the potential for an exciting series ahead. This announcement comes as a positive development for Marshall football, providing an opportunity for new competition and creating excitement for both the players and fans.
