The Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority has successfully implemented innovative treatment technology to remove PFAS chemicals from its drinking water. Partnering with TruClear Water Solutions Inc., BCWSA piloted the Advanced Molecular Oxidation system at two water supply locations with slightly elevated PFAS levels, achieving over 90% reduction of the chemicals. BCWSA is seeking approval from the PA Department of Environmental Protection to permanently implement this technology, making them the first water utility in the world to do so.
BCWSA’s board chairman, John Cordisco, expressed the authority’s commitment to investing in this technology to eliminate harmful chemicals from drinking water for Bucks County residents. The AMO technology, which operates without generating contaminants that need disposal, has the potential to address the global issue of PFAS contamination in water systems. TruClear Solutions’ president and CEO, John Ayers, highlighted the system’s effectiveness in producing minimal waste and reducing treatment costs.
With the PA DEP likely to lower PFAS limits in drinking water, BCWSA’s initiative to proactively address the issue sets a precedent for the industry. The authority’s pilot results have been sent to the DEP for review and approval of a permanent system operated by TruClear Water Solutions. By utilizing this green technology, BCWSA aims to provide purer drinking water that surpasses federal and state regulations.
